Israel moves from the judges into kingship, discovering that the promised kingdom requires a faithful ruler under God.

1 Samuel summary

Hannah’s answered prayer introduces Samuel, who speaks God’s word as Eli’s house collapses. The captured ark returns by the LORD’s power, and Israel receives help through repentance. The people nevertheless demand a king like the nations. Saul begins with deliverance but disobeys the word that governs his office. God anoints David and preserves him through Saul’s pursuit, without concealing David’s failures. Saul dies in defeat while the chosen successor waits to receive the kingdom.
